Message from the Incoming COSECSA President
I am honored to speak to you all as your incoming President of COSECSA for the next two years. I have been in COSECSA Council since 2007 (a period of 17 years). I have served as Country Representative, Chairperson of Education, Scientific and Research Committee (ESRC), Assistant Secretary General, and Vice President.
During this 17-year period of being a Council member I have seen nine Presidents and seen their style of leadership. I have walked with the giants not only in the Council but also with the General COSECSA Fellows. I know the Breadth and widths of COSECSA.
COSECSA is now well established. However, it’s not time to relax. We are the torch bearers in the ECSA region. All the newer colleges are learning or cut and paste what we have done. (The default question and answer they have is “what did COSECSA do?” whenever they run in any difficulties)
The following will be the Main Themes for this Council and Executive in the coming 2 years:
- College Sustainability Maintain the Momentum (keep what is working and make improvement on it) example of this is the examinations. Sustain the college, Laki laki land development, look for a co-investor to develop the land.
- Quality Assurance Quality in our progressive evaluation, teaching, mentoring and trainee follow up. Review and do all the Curriculums to standards that will not fall short of the higher education commissions/authorities requirement in the all the member countries. Accredited hospital quality assurance, follow up and support.
- Fellows and Trainers support Engagement of Fellows and trainers (Benefits and privileges), Consider MSc in surgical education, certificate in surgical education and leadership
- Partner engagement Re-establish MOH leadership collaboration and Contribution to COSECSA. Strengthening our links with local surgical societies and training hospitals. Let us implement the Strategic Plan before we prepare another one.
I am a strong believer in Facilitative leadership with firm decisive decision making. If you want anything to succeed in Life all you have to do is pay attention to it.
Thank you.
