Sub-Saharan Africa and other LMICs have low research output compared to HICs. Lack of research knowledge and skills is one of the hindering factors reported. The College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA) is collaborating with the Intuitive Foundation to build research capacity among surgical care providers in the region. As part of research capacity strengthening, COSECSA has organized an In-person One-Week Research Workshop.
The overall purpose is to develop Global Surgery Research Capacity to increase research output and improve patient outcomes in the region. We believe that this will contribute in producing evidence to address the burden of surgical diseases and improve patient outcomes. We hope to develop and support a cohort of surgical providers who want to incorporate research in their clinical work, and enable them undertake quality surgical research that inform policy and practice.
